During April 2026 The Q Train Steam Services offered something truly uncommon; a dual-engine heritage journey, featuring both diesel and steam traction, with a locomotive making its first-ever appearance hauling The Q Train.
Due to broader operational requirements across the Bellarine Railway, steam locomotive 3620 was not available for service. In its place, we were pleased to present a rail experience that was of particular interest to heritage and rail enthusiasts.
Two Engines, One Journey
- Drysdale to Lakers Siding
The journey began behind Diesel Locomotive 1107, with guests enjoying their first two courses en route. - Lakers Siding – Engine Change & Photo Opportunity
At Lakers Siding, guests were invited to step off the train and get up close as the Bellarine Railway’s much-loved steam locomotive Pozieres couples to The Q Train. - Lakers Siding to Queenscliff
Hauled by Pozieres, The Q Train travelled past Swan Bay while guests enjoyed another course, accompanied by the sound and presence of steam. - Queenscliff & Return Journey
There was further opportunities to view and photograph Pozieres in Queenscliff before it hauled the train back toward Lakers Siding, with the fourth course being served onboard. - Final Leg to Drysdale
Locomotive 1107 returned for the final stretch, giving guests time to enjoy dessert and revisit photos from the journey.
A Rare Opportunity
Pozieres has been a regular feature of Bellarine Railway services throughout the 2010s, but this marked the first time it hauled The Q Train. We were delighted to be able to share this moment with our guests as part of a distinctive steam weekend.
